The local letter tool
The Contact page uses JavaScript to turn the fields you enter into a plain-text preview. The tool has no message-sending endpoint and does not automatically transmit field contents to us. It does not deliberately store your draft in cookies or browser local storage. Your browser may independently retain form history or restore a page session according to its settings.
Copying places text on your device’s clipboard when you grant access. Downloading creates a text file on your device. Clipboard history, synced clipboards, downloaded files and device backups are controlled by your device and service settings. Avoid including sensitive personal information.
If you choose to email us
We receive the information you send, which may include your name, email address, message, attachments and email metadata. We use it to read and respond to your enquiry, consider editorial corrections and keep an appropriate record of correspondence. We do not add correspondents to a marketing list through this tool.
Our usual legal basis is our legitimate interest in managing correspondence, maintaining editorial accuracy and protecting the website. Where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, that obligation is the legal basis. You can ask us about the basis relevant to your particular enquiry.
Technical data and service providers
When a browser requests a page, hosting and network services necessarily process connection information such as the IP address, requested resource, time and browser headers. Security or access logs may be maintained by the hosting environment. This website’s supplied scripts do not contain analytics, advertising pixels or third-party tracking libraries.
Hosting and email providers may process information on our behalf to operate those services. We do not sell personal information. Information may be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Where a provider processes personal data outside the European Economic Area, applicable data protection transfer requirements must be respected.
Retention and security
We retain correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry, related editorial work and any applicable legal obligations or claims. Relevant factors include whether a matter remains open and whether a record is needed to explain a correction. You may ask about retention for a specific message.
We use proportionate measures to protect information, but no internet or email service can guarantee absolute security. Please do not email access codes, financial details or private household security information.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, the GDPR gives you rights to request access, correction, erasure, restriction and portability of personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Contact us to exercise these rights. We may need proportionate information to verify identity. You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission or your relevant supervisory authority.
